Welcome to Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Arlington Heights is a village located in Cook County, Illinois and a northwestern suburb of Chicago and about 15 miles west of Lake Michigan. A 2003 recount gave the village a population of 76,422.
The city is best known as the home of Arlington Park (see photo), the world famous horse racing track which began operations in 1927. Feature races include the Breeders' Cup and the Arlington Million. The racetrack is said by many to be one of the finest such facilities in the world.
It is also home to the Metropolis Performing Arts Theatre and highly regarded John Hersey High School. Soccer player Brian McBride lives in and grew up in this town.
Originally known as Dunton, the city changed its name in 1874. Area recreation includes outings to the Nickol Knoll Golf Club and Arlington Lakes Golf Club.
